Global Issue - Global Warming

1. Brief description of the issue.
Global warming is the increase of average temperature of the Earths surface area resulting in an increase in the volume of water which contributes to sea-level rise.--Baldip

3 what if questions

What if global warming affected your town tomorrow, what could your council do to cope with this?
What if we knew in advance that global warming was going to occur, what would we do different in order to prevent global warming?
What if we did not do anything about global warming?--Baldip

The world should care about global warming because global warming affects everyone in the world.--Baldip

2. Why do you consider this a global issue? (Who does it affect? Where is it occurring? What proportion of the world is affected or will be affected in the future?)

I consider this a global warming a global issue because it affects everyone and is occurring on this planet here is a map to show where in particular the global warming is taking place, the whole world is being affected in different ways like in some places the water levels have risen substantial amounts whereas in some places it has only increased slightly which still has an effect on the Earth. These effects on the environment will keep on happening into the future until we all die, or we do something to stop these carbon emissions and other green house gasses which cause the water level to rise.

3. What are some of the different opinions/perspectives on the issue? (Give examples, evidence and pictures to support your answers above)

There are numerous amounts of opinions about whether global warming is an actuality or is just a bunch of nonsense. Some even oppose the fact that people are making global warming happen or if it is just nature taking its course. Just about all scientists say that global warming is occurring but then there are normal people like us that have to see it to believe it. Here are a few opinions given by very important people.
Former Vice President Al Gore, in an opinion piece for in 2005: [strongly agrees]
"The science is extremely clear: Global warming may not affect the frequency of hurricanes, but it makes the average hurricane stronger, magnifying its destructive power. In the years ahead, there will be more storms like Katrina, unless we change course. Indeed, we have had two more Category 5 storms since Katrina—including Wilma, which before landfall was the strongest hurricane ever measured in the Atlantic.”
William Gray, hurricane expert and head of the Tropical Meteorology Project at Colorado State University, in a 2005 interview with Discover magazine: [a bit skeptical]
"I'm not disputing that there has been global warming. There was a lot of global warming in the 1930s and '40s, and then there was a slight global cooling from the middle '40s to the early '70s. And there has been warming since the middle '70s, especially in the last 10 years. But this is natural, due to ocean circulation changes and other factors. It is not human induced."
"Nearly all of my colleagues who have been around 40 or 50 years are skeptical as hell about this whole global-warming thing. But no one asks us. If you don't know anything about how the atmosphere functions, you will of course say, 'Look, greenhouse gases are going up, the globe is warming, they must be related.' Well, just because there are two associations, changing with the same sign, doesn't mean that one is causing the other."--Baldip

4. Why are there different opinion/perspectives on the issue? (Give examples, evidence and pictures to support your answers above)

There are different opinions on global warming maybe because we cannot understand what is happening maybe or because the scientists are not explaining the issue properly so normal people can understand, or maybe because we do not see the global warming physically occurring so we think that it is not there. It mainly depends on the person and there way of thinking. -- Baldip

5. What are your individual opinions on the issue? (Each group member comments about this)

My opinion is that global warming is occurring and we should do something before it is too late and we can not do anything about it.
------- Baldip Singh

6. What are some of the solutions to solve this global issue?

There are a lot of solutions to global warming that we citizens could do and some that the government could here are some that us people could do...
The car you drive
Look for cars with the best fuel economy in its class. Each gallon of gas you use is responsible for 25 pounds of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere. Better gas mileage not only reduces global warming, but will also save you thousands of dollars at the pump over the life of the vehicle.
Choose clean power.
More than half the electricity in the United States comes from polluting coal-fired power plants. And power plants are the single largest source of heat-trapping gas.
Light bulbs
if every household in the United States replaced one regular light bulb with an energy-saving model, we could reduce global warming pollution by more than 90 billion pounds over the life of the bulbs; the same as taking 6.3 million cars off the road.
Think before you drive.
If you own more than one vehicle, use the less fuel-efficient one only when you can fill it with passengers. Driving a full minivan may be kinder to the environment than two midsize cars. Whenever possible, join a carpool or take mass transit.
Plant a tree.
You can also make a difference in your own backyard. Get a group in your neighborhood together and contact your local urban forester about planting trees on private property and public land. In addition to storing carbon, trees planted in and around urban areas and can provide much-needed shade in the summer, reducing energy bills and fossil fuel use.

7. Who should carry out the solution(s)?

Some of the solutions which I have just told you in question 6. Can be done by regular people and also can be done with ease and these ideas are easy because people do not need to spend much money to do them.
Though we have the option of choosing what type of power we use it could be better that the governments stopped nuclear and coal-fired power plants and be banned all together and find an alternative energy source which is environmentally friendly.
The everyday man does not always think about how to save the Earth and its environment, when he is driving his flash car he does not realize the amount of pollution he is creating. So if we banned petrol and diesel powered cars also this would be also better for the environment.

8. Imagine your group is in charge of deciding what the world should do about the issue. Brainstorm the ways that you would solve your global issue. Justify your choice. (You will need to work together on this)

Though I do understand this is a group task unfortunately I will have to do this task as well as no one is willing or prepared to do any work in my group.

-I would ban petrol and diesel cars
-Ban anything else that emits a large amount of carbon emissions
-Recycle as much of our litter as possible
-Offer goods that can be recycled
-Promote recycling more on the television, etc.
-Possibly pay a little amount of money to people that recycle (something along the lines of $2 for every kilogram the person recycles over the period of time)
-Plant trees all over the world
-Choose any environmentally friendly means

My topic is Global Warming.(Pyo Young Chan)
First, I will tell you why I think Global
Warming is global issue.
1. Global Warming can melt most of glacier.
If glacier melts, seawater level will be
increased. So land which its height is low
will be sinked.(For example, Japan)
2. Global Warming can make the world
high temperature. So people will be suffered
from the hot weather.
So I think we have to keep our earth from risks of Global Warming.

I would like to discuss about Global warming.(Aum sun ho)
My issue is Global warming.
It's very serious problem.
It makes the earth get warming because lots of CO2 gas is increasing.
Lots of countrys and people get hot.
We must solve the problem.

My topic is Global Warming.( Sangwoo Cho)
1. Global warming is really important problem. If we can't protecting we, maybe we will all die. So we must find can protecting ways such as reducing CFC.
2. I think we must solve this problem. So I think every people need good think.
3. No. Anyone disagree with me. Because it is really important.

group 2- global warming(sung yun su)
1. why is this a global issue.
Because If global warming countinue our Earth temperature will increase. And sea level will increase too. Iceburg in polar regions will melt.
If temperature is over than 304K the runaway global warming will begin.
2. My opinion
We must block global warming. SO we must decrese CO2.
3. people might disagree.
Because they just inference only his profit.
I refer to an inconvinient truth
